Understanding Text Credits in DonorDock
Text Credits are used to send and receive text messages through DonorDock. Your organization's subscription includes a monthly allotment of Text Credits. You can also purchase additional credits as needed.
Monthly and Additional Credits
Credit Type | Description |

Monthly Text Credits | Credits included with your DonorDock subscription for the current month |
Additional Text Credits | Credits purchased separately from the monthly allotment |
Monthly Text Credits are used before purchased Additional Text Credits. Unused purchased credits do not expire.
How Text Credit Usage Is Calculated
The length and characters used in a text determine how many credits are required.
Generally:
Messages up to 160 standard SMS characters use 1 Text Credit
Longer messages may be split into multiple segments and use additional credits
DonorDock displays an estimated credit count while you compose messages.
Emojis and Special Characters
Emojis and certain special characters use Unicode text encoding. When a message contains a Unicode character, the number of characters that fit within each text segment is reduced.
For example, a standard SMS segment may support approximately 160 characters, while a message containing an emoji may support approximately 70 characters per segment.
As a result, adding even one emoji may increase the number of Text Credits required.
View Available Text Credits
Quick View
Click the Text Message icon near the top of DonorDock to view your current available Text Credits.
Detailed Breakdown
Navigate to Outreach > Texting > Bulk Texts.
Locate the available Text Credit count near the Bulk Texts heading.
Click the question mark next to the count.
The breakdown may include:
Category | Description |

Additional Texts | Purchased credits available beyond your monthly allowance |
Scheduled Texts | Credits reserved for scheduled bulk texts |

Low Credit Notifications
DonorDock provides notifications as your available balance gets low.
A notification appears when the account drops below 100 credits
Administrators receive an email when the balance drops below 30 credits
Purchase Additional Text Credits
You can purchase additional credits at any time.
From the Text Message Icon
Click the Text Message icon near the top of DonorDock.
Review your available Text Credits.
Click Purchase More.
Select the desired credit package.
Click Pay.
The organization's saved payment method is charged and the purchased credits are added to the account.
From Billing
Open the Settings Menu.
Select Billing.
Locate Add-on Purchases.
Click Purchase More for Text Credits.
Select the desired credit package.
Click Pay.
