Stripe Payment Data Migration Services

If your organization is moving to Stripe from another payment processor, Stripe offers a managed data migration service that may allow supported customer and payment information to be transferred securely into your Stripe account. This can be especially helpful when transitioning existing recurring donors because it may allow you to move stored payment methods without requiring every donor to enter their card or bank information again.

Stripe currently supports importing several types of payment information from other payment providers, including credit and debit cards and ACH payment methods. Customer information such as name, email address, phone number, billing address, and certain metadata may also be included when it is transferred with the associated payment information.

Request a Migration Through Stripe

The organization that owns the Stripe account must submit the migration request directly. The Stripe account holder must be logged in to Stripe to access and submit the secure data migration request form.

After you submit the request, Stripe will follow up by email with the next steps for the migration. The full migration timeline can vary depending on the payment processor you are moving from, the type and amount of data being transferred, and how quickly the current processor provides the required files. Stripe and the existing payment processor may need to work together to securely transfer the payment data, so delays from the previous processor can also delay the overall migration.

If your previous processor has not provided the requested migration files or information, your organization may need to continue following up directly with that provider so Stripe can proceed.

What Stripe Can Migrate

Stripe's managed migration service can import supported payment methods from another payment provider. For organizations using DonorDock in the United States, the most common types are:

  • Credit and debit card payment information

  • ACH bank payment information

  • Associated customer information transferred with those payment methods

Stripe also supports additional payment types, depending on the source processor and account configuration. Stripe determines whether it can support a specific migration after reviewing the request.

Stripe transfers payment data securely between Stripe and the existing payment processor. DonorDock does not receive, store, transfer, or manage the underlying card or bank account credentials during this process.

Stripe provides and manages Stripe payment-data migrations directly. DonorDock does not initiate the migration, communicate with the previous processor on your behalf, transfer stored payment credentials, or control the migration timeline.

Your organization will need to work directly with Stripe and your existing payment provider throughout the migration process. Direct questions about supported payment data, required files, migration status, or delays to Stripe's Data Migrations team.
