Migrating from Mailchimp

Mailchimp is an email marketing and automation platform for managing contacts, audiences, email campaigns, and subscriber engagement.

If you are moving contact data from Mailchimp to DonorDock, you can export an entire audience or export specific segments, tags, or groups as CSV files.

Mailchimp ZIP files: A Mailchimp audience export may download as a ZIP file containing separate CSV files for different contact types, such as subscribed, unsubscribed, non-subscribed, and cleaned contacts. Unzip the file to access the individual CSV files before reviewing or importing your data.

Update the Contact Table Columns

Mailchimp's contact table lets you control which information is displayed for contacts in an audience.

To update the columns shown:

  1. Log in to your Mailchimp account.

  2. Select Audience.

  3. Click All contacts.

  4. If you have more than one audience, use the Current audience dropdown to select the audience you want to work with.

  5. Open the Toggle Columns dropdown.

  6. Check the fields you want to display and uncheck any fields you want to hide.

  7. To change the column order, click and drag the three vertical dots next to a field to your preferred location.

  8. Click Save.

Export an Entire Audience

To export all contacts from an audience:

  1. Select Audience.

  2. Click All contacts.

  3. If you have more than one audience, use the Current audience dropdown to select the appropriate audience.

  4. Click Export Audience.

  5. Once the export has finished processing, click Export as CSV to download the file.

For a complete migration, review all CSV files included in the export, including files for different contact subscription statuses.

Export a Specific Segment

If you only need contacts from a particular segment:

  1. Select Audience.

  2. Click All contacts.

  3. If needed, select the appropriate audience from the Current audience dropdown.

  5. Click Export Segment.

  6. Once the export has finished processing, click Export as CSV.

Export Contacts by Tag

To export contacts associated with one or more Mailchimp tags:

  1. Select Audience.

  2. Click All contacts.

  3. If needed, select the appropriate audience from the Current audience dropdown.

  4. Open the Filter by Tags dropdown and select a tag.

  5. Mailchimp will display a segment containing contacts with that tag.

  6. To include additional tags, use the Filtered By Tags dropdown to update the filter.

  8. Once the export has finished processing, click Export as CSV.

Mailchimp tags may be useful when recreating contact organization in DonorDock. Depending on how your organization used them, tags may be imported as Badges or Marketing Lists
