Migrating from GiftWorks

To export data from GiftWorks for migration to DonorDock, you can use SmartLists. SmartLists allow you to export core donor and donation information from your GiftWorks database.

For a typical migration, we recommend exporting both your donor records and donation history.

Export Donor Information

To export your donor records:

  1. Select SmartLists from the top navigation.

  2. Click View and Manage SmartLists.

  3. In the Standard SmartLists section, select All Donors.

  4. On the Results screen, click Customize in the top-right corner.

  5. Add the columns containing the donor information you want to retain.

    • Be sure to include important contact information such as:

      • First and last name

      • Mailing address

      • Email address

      • Phone numbers

      • Any other donor details you want to bring into DonorDock

  6. Click Export This List.

  7. Select Save to File.

  8. Save the export as a CSV file and store it somewhere you can easily locate later.

Export Donation Information

To export your donation history:

  1. Select SmartLists from the top navigation.

  2. Click View and Manage SmartLists.

  3. In the Standard SmartLists section, select All Donations.

  4. On the Results screen, click Customize in the top-right corner.

  5. Add the columns containing the gift information you want to retain during your migration.

  6. Click Export This List.

💡 Tip: When customizing your donation SmartList, include any available donor identifiers along with the gift information. These identifiers can help connect donations to the correct contact records during migration.

DonorDock does not have access to GiftWorks or control over changes to its features, terminology, or export process. This guide is provided as a general resource to help you begin your migration. If the options available in your GiftWorks account differ from those shown here, or you need assistance exporting additional information, you may need to contact your current provider for guidance.
