Logging Text Messages Sent Outside DonorDock

Not every text conversation needs to be sent through DonorDock. If your team communicates with a contact outside of DonorDock, you can record that communication using a Log Text Message activity.

This keeps the text in the contact's communication history, even though DonorDock didn't send the message.

When to Log a Text Message

You might log a text when:

  • A staff member texted a donor from another approved communication tool

  • A previous text needs to be added to the donor's history

  • Historical text communication is being imported into DonorDock

Create an activity from a location where activities may normally be added, such as:

  • Contact record

  • Quick Add

  • ActionBoard

Select Log Text Message as the activity type.

Import Logged Text Activities

You can also add historical text activities through DonorDock's import tool.

When preparing the import file, include the appropriate activity information and map the imported activity to the Log Text Message activity type.

This can be useful when moving communication history into DonorDock from another CRM or tracking system.

Reporting on Logged Texts

Logged texts appear with other text activities in Activity Reports.

Text activity reporting may include:

  • Individual text messages sent through DonorDock

  • Bulk text messages

  • Text-to-Donate activity

  • Logged text messages created outside DonorDock

A standard Text Messages This Month report is also available for quick review of current text activity.
