Eventbrite to DonorDock Integration
Eventbrite is an event management platform that connects directly to DonorDock, bringing event registrations, ticket purchases, attendees, and related information into your DonorDock account.
DonorDock's direct Eventbrite integration is the recommended way to connect Eventbrite and DonorDock. The integration automatically syncs completed Eventbrite orders and can optionally create contacts and attendance activities for individual event attendees.
If you do not want to us this built in integration, exports from Eventbrite can still be imported in manually from the import tool, or you can use the integration builder or Zapier to build your own DIY configuration.

Connect Eventbrite Directly to DonorDock
To connect Eventbrite:
Open the Settings Menu in DonorDock by clicking the grid icon in the upper-right corner.
Select Integrations.
Find the Eventbrite tile and click to open the integration settings
Enter your Eventbrite Private Token.
Configure your Eventbrite sync settings.
Enable the integration when you are ready to begin syncing.
To Find Your Eventbrite Private Token
In Eventbrite, navigate to: Account Settings > Developer Links > API Keys > Show API key, client secret and tokens. Eventbrite may display an API key, public token, and private token on the same page. DonorDock requires the private token.
Eventbrite Organization ID
For most Eventbrite accounts, DonorDock will automatically identify the Eventbrite Organization ID associated with your private token, but if your Eventbrite account has access to multiple organizations, enter the appropriate Organization ID during setup.

Configuring the Eventbrite Integration
Several settings are available to control what information DonorDock receives through the Eventbrite integration.
The first set of options appears above the Organization ID:
Enabled: Turn this toggle on to enable the Eventbrite integration and begin scheduled syncing.
Sync Event Attendees: Choose whether individual event attendees should also be synced to DonorDock. This option is turned off by default.
When off, DonorDock syncs the Eventbrite event, completed order, ticket purchaser, and related gift.
When on, DonorDock can also create contacts for individual attendees and add Event Attendance activities for those attendees.
Sync From: Set how far back DonorDock should look for Eventbrite data during the next sync. You can update this date at any time if you need to perform a retroactive sync.
To access additional configuration options, including event designation settings and contact badges, click Configure below the Private Token field after connecting Eventbrite.
After making any changes to the integration settings, make sure to click Save before leaving the page.

Campaign or Appeal for designation tracking
Once on the configuration settings, you may choose how Eventbrite events should be represented in DonorDock:
Campaign recommended and selected by default
Appeal
The Campaign or Appeal will be created with an Event type. If a Campaign or Appeal with the same name already exists in DonorDock and is not connected to a different Eventbrite event, the integration can use the existing record rather than creating a duplicate.
Public API Note: If Eventbrite events are mapped to Appeals, Event Attendance records returned through the DonorDock Public API will only include an Event ID when the Appeal belongs to a Campaign. Campaign mapping does not have this limitation.
Contact Badges
You can optionally add badges to apply during the Eventbrite sync.
Order Contact Badges are applied to the person who placed the order.
Attendee Contact Badges are applied to individual attendees when Sync Event Attendees is enabled.
Badges are optional, and no badges are applied unless they are selected in the integration settings. Badges can be applied to both new and existing contacts.
If you have an Automation or Journey that begins when a particular badge is applied, adding that badge through the Eventbrite integration may trigger that Automation or Journey.

What Eventbrite Creates in DonorDock
The integration converts Eventbrite information into the following DonorDock records:
Eventbrite | DonorDock |
|---|---|
Event | Campaign or Appeal with an Event type (depending on configuration settings, will default to Campaign if not set). |
Completed Order | Gift with an Event Ticket transaction type |
Donation included with an order | Separate Donation gift |
Ticket Purchaser | Contact |
Attendee with their own email | Contact, when attendee syncing is enabled |
Attendee | Event Attendance activity, when attendee syncing is enabled |
The gift created for an order is attributed to the ticket purchaser, since that person completed the transaction.
How Contacts Are Matched
DonorDock matches Eventbrite purchasers and attendees to existing contacts using their email address. If DonorDock doesn't find a matching contact, it creates a new contact record.
Attendees Without Their Own Email Address
A separate attendee contact is only created when the attendee has their own email address that differs from the purchaser's email address.
If an attendee:
Does not have an email address, or
Uses the same email address as the purchaser
their Event Attendance activity is recorded on the purchaser's contact instead.
If you want each attendee to have their own DonorDock contact record, configure Eventbrite to collect a unique email address for each attendee.
Contact Information Synced from Eventbrite
When Eventbrite's built-in order form fields are used, DonorDock can map information such as:
First Name
Last Name
Email
Title or Prefix
Suffix
Date of Birth
Mobile Phone
Job Title
Employer Name
Website
Home Address
If no home address is collected, billing address information may be used instead.
The information available depends on which fields you have enabled on the Eventbrite order form.
Built-In Fields vs. Custom Questions
Eventbrite allows organizers to collect information either through its standard built-in fields or through custom questions. Information collected through Eventbrite's built-in fields will be mapped to corresponding DonorDock contact fields.
Information collected through custom questions is stored in the Event Attendance activity instead. Custom question responses are not currently mapped into DonorDock custom fields.
For example, if you create your own custom question asking for a phone number instead of enabling Eventbrite's built-in phone field, the answer will appear in the Event Attendance activity body but will not populate the contact's Mobile Phone field.
The Event Attendance activity can also include:
Age
Gender
Ticket type
Check-in status
Responses to Eventbrite custom questions
Existing Contact Records
When the Eventbrite integration finds an existing DonorDock contact, it connects the Eventbrite information to that contact rather than creating another record.
The integration does not update contact fields on an existing contact.
For example, if a contact already exists in DonorDock but has a blank address or phone number, syncing a new Eventbrite registration will not fill those fields.
This protects information that your organization may already have entered or maintained in DonorDock from being overwritten.
If you need to update existing contacts with additional Eventbrite contact information, you can export the attendee information from Eventbrite and import it into DonorDock as a contact update. You can also manually edit a contact in DonorDock at any time.
Event Attendance Activities
When attendee syncing is enabled, each attendee receives an Event Attendance activity.
The activity:
Is connected to the appropriate Event
Uses the Event's start date
Is marked complete
Includes available Eventbrite attendee information and custom question responses
Gifts and Ticket Purchases
Each completed Eventbrite order creates an Event Ticket gift attributed to the purchaser.
The gift amount reflects the gross amount paid by the purchaser, including applicable fees. Eventbrite fees are recorded separately on the gift for reporting in the Fee amount field.
The Eventbrite ticket type is stored in the gift's Tracking Code, allowing you to distinguish between ticket types such as:
Individual Ticket
VIP Ticket
Table Sponsor
General Admission
Non-Deductible Amounts
For ticket purchases, the ticket's face value is used as the gift's Non-Deductible Amount, representing the value the purchaser received in exchange for their payment.
Orders That Include a Donation
If an Eventbrite order includes both tickets and a donation, DonorDock creates two separate gifts:
An Event Ticket gift
A Donation gift
The Donation gift has a non-deductible amount of $0.
Separating the transaction in this way allows DonorDock to accurately track the deductible and non-deductible portions of the overall payment.
Free Events
Free registrations and $0 orders still create a gift record so the registration remains visible on the contact.
Because no payment was processed, the Payment Type is recorded as Other rather than Credit Card.
Refunds and Cancellations
Eventbrite refunds and cancellations are also reflected in DonorDock.
If an entire order is refunded or canceled:
The related gift status is changed to Canceled
Associated Event Attendance activities are also moved from completed to canceled
Records are canceled rather than deleted so the transaction history remains available for reporting and reconciliation.
If only one attendee from a larger order is refunded, only that attendee's Event Attendance activity is canceled.
If your team manually cancels a gift in DonorDock, a later Eventbrite sync will not reactivate it.

How Often Eventbrite Syncs
The Eventbrite integration automatically checks for updates hourly. Each sync looks for Eventbrite orders created or changed since the previous successful sync.
Incomplete Eventbrite Orders
Only completed or placed Eventbrite orders are brought into DonorDock.
Orders that are still:
Started
Pending
Abandoned
are ignored and do not create DonorDock records.
Events Without Orders
DonorDock creates Eventbrite events when orders for those events are processed. An Eventbrite event that has not received any orders will not yet create a Campaign or Appeal in DonorDock.
Donations Do Not Create Attendance
Eventbrite represents some donations as a type of ticket. DonorDock recognizes donation-only transactions and does not create an Event Attendance activity for them. This prevents a donor from appearing as an event attendee when they only donated.

What the Eventbrite Integration Does Not Do
The Eventbrite integration does not currently:
Push DonorDock information back into Eventbrite. The integration is one-way from Eventbrite to DonorDock.
Map Eventbrite custom questions into DonorDock custom fields.
Split one ticket gift among multiple attendee contacts. The gift remains attributed to the person who purchased the tickets.
Create Campaigns or Appeals for Eventbrite events that do not yet have any orders.
Overwrite information already stored on an existing DonorDock contact.
