Automation Triggers

Automation Triggers determine when an Automation begins. When the selected event occurs in DonorDock, the Automation checks any additional filters you have configured and, if the criteria are met, starts the actions included in the Automation.

For example, you might create an Automation that begins when a Gift is Created, but use additional filters so it only runs when the gift is greater than a certain amount or is associated with a specific campaign.

Available Automation Triggers

DonorDock includes the following triggers:

  • Contact Created: Starts when a new contact is created.

  • Contact Updated: Starts when information on an existing contact is updated.

  • Contact Stage Changed: Starts when a contact moves to a different stage, such as Prospect, Donor, or Lapsed.

  • Contact Added to Badge: Starts when a specific badge is added to a contact.

  • Contact Added to Marketing List: Starts when a contact is added to a selected Marketing List.

  • Contact Birthday: Starts based on a contact's birthday.

  • Recurring Donor Created: Starts when a new recurring donation is created.

  • Recurring Donor Canceled: Starts when a recurring donation is canceled.

  • Gift Created: Starts when a new gift is created.

  • Gift Updated: Starts when an existing gift is updated.

  • Activity Created: Starts when a new activity is created.

  • Ask Stage Changed: Starts when the stage of an Ask changes.

  • Membership Expiring: Starts when a membership is approaching its expiration date.

  • Membership Renewing: Starts when a membership is approaching its renewal.

  • Pledge Payment Due: Starts based on an upcoming pledge installment due date.

  • Form Response Received: Starts when a response is submitted through a DonorDock form.

Adding Filters to a Trigger

After selecting a trigger, you can add filters to further define when the Automation should run.

Filters allow you to narrow a broad event into a more specific scenario. For example, instead of running an Automation for every new gift, you could configure the Gift Created trigger to run only for gifts that meet specific criteria.

The filtering options available depend on the trigger you select. Filters can help ensure contacts enter an Automation only when they meet the conditions relevant to that workflow.
